Verra Mobility surveyed 100 C-suite technology leaders – CIOs and Deputy CIOs – from U.S. cities and municipalities who are heavily involved in transportation in order to examine the impact of revolutionary mobility trends such as autonomous, connected, electric and shared vehicles.

Highlights from our survey include:

  • 93% of cities in the U.S. anticipating needed to be ready for driverless or autonomous vehicles within the next 5 years.
  • 55% of municipal tech leaders have reducing road safety incidents as a top 3 priority to address with tech-based solutions.
  • 81% anticipate some systems will need to be updated before they’re ready to incorporate connected vehicles into their transportation initiatives.
  • 43% said their cities have deprioritized support for electric vehicle infrastructure due to the fact that consumer demand for EV technology has not kept up with initial predictions.
  • 84% of respondents said the rapid increase in shared mobility – including e-bikes, e-scooters and ride sharing services – has complicated their mobility efforts.
